Eighth grade science at WMS focuses on the study of living things. Major concepts for life science include: Populations and ecosystems, structure and function of living things, reproduction and heredity, and diversity and adaptation of organisms.

As in 7th grade, there is an emphasis placed on experimental design and investigations. Students learn to ask sound scientific questions, plan and carry out controlled experiments, and collect their own data. They analyze their data and communicate their findings in the form of written lab reports.

Throughout the year, students participate in long- and short-term investigations and experiments, as well as perform individual science@home investigations and experiments. Students construct models to analyze form and function, and research life science topics for class presentations.
