Mission:

We are focused on promoting challenging educational experiences, with equity of opportunity and access that will enable all students, commensurate with their abilities, to become participating and contributing members of society. Olympia School District's ASD programs are integrated within schools at all grade levels and share common elements. The programs offer blended academics, technology, related and support services, occupational training, recreational/leisure activities and community-based instruction. These services are driven by Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) developed in consultation with parents and students. The students and families are encouraged to make choices throughout the students' educational careeers. Their participation in the IEP process will further help direct the ongoing delivery of services and ultimately result in more positive post-secondary outcomes for students.

ASD Program Goals:

* Encourage effective collaboration between educators and families.

* Ensure students receive and inclusive, integrated or main-streamed education appropriate to the special needs of the individual.

* Seek to identify and overcome barriers, which prevent successful outcomes.

* Recognize family empowerment and involvement as a valued resource.

* Provide research-based and innovative practices to assist students with social, emotional, communication and academic skill development.
