Dear WMS Families,

My name is Desi Saylors. I am excited to introduce myself to you as a student teacher in your student’s science class. I come to WMS from St. Martin’s University. I have been attending SMU for the last two and a half years and I am thrilled to be completing my program with a great group of kids and teachers. I will be teaching jointly with Mrs. King until the beginning of February when I take over solo for eight weeks and finally complete my internship at the end of April.

I have a great passion for science and children. I am excited to support students during this critical time in their development while sharing my interest and enthusiasm for science. I have worked with kids for many years in different arenas. I started developing lasting relationships with children and families as a high school student when I nannied for a family for four years. I still see the kids that I spent so much time with many years ago and look forward to watching one of them graduate this spring. For two years in the late 1990’s I managed the Teen C.A.R.E. Line at the Crisis Clinic of Thurston County. I enjoyed working with the teens and supporting them while they developed a relationship with their community and peers. Most recently a group of friends and I created and managed a small cooperative “preschool” for our children. We spent each Friday for two years with seven two and three year olds singing songs, learning preschool skills, and focusing on social development. It was an amazing experience that has prepared our children for the educational and social road ahead.

A little about me--I have lived in Olympia since 1995 and adore this city. I have one son and I am expecting a second child in early June. I love knitting, cycling, and spending time outdoors.

I am available for meetings, phone calls, or emails. Please feel free to contact me anytime!!

Thank you,
Desi Saylors
